educo runs a 21st century school at Saibabapath Mumbai Public School from PreK to 10 under the Public Private Partnership Policy of municipal corporation (MCGM). We deliver a tuition free English medium education to a 1000+ children from underprivileged slum communities of Lalbaug, Mumbai.

Serving the SDG Goals, we run an aspirational school where students have the opportunity to excel in holistic learning - academics, sports, IT, social & emotional learning, arts & extra-curriculars.

We ensure a transformative educational experience for each child which will prepare them to be change agents for their community for a better tomorrow.

About Educo

We are a public charitable trust (E-25425) established by Ms. Meenal Srinivasan in 2009 for advancement of education of impoverished communities.

We aspire to be a centre-of-excellence to our ecosystem by improving student learning outcomes in municipal school systems through teacher training. The school is our learning lab where we develop and test 21st century teaching-learning practices that are shared with other municipal schools through teacher training.

37% of the total municipal school students are served by low-cost Affordable Pricing Schools that have shut down operations during COVID leading to massive dropouts

Quality of Education

Only 69% of students in MCGM schools pass the SSC exam (vs. 92% in pvt. schools)& only 1.6% received a State Middle School Scholarship (vs. 11.8% in pvt. schools) and 0.6% received State High School Scholarship (vs. 10.9% in pvt schools)

OUR SOLUTION

Serving 10% of the total number of students served by the NGOs in partnership with MCGM.

We have a record of 100% pass in SSC exams with some of bright students in topmost colleges of the city – Sydenham and Xaviers.

We have 46% passing rate in scholarship exams as against state average of 18%.

Our U-16 Girls football team are city champions of the Milind Deora Junior Soccer Challenger – 2019

“I did my BSc in Microbiology and pursued a Diploma in Laboratory Technology. I started my career at Pune hospital & Research Centre and eventually moved to working at a Biotech Lab in Mumbai after my marriage. I worked there for 3 years on testing of hormones. However, after the birth of my second child I decided to make a big switch to my career. I went for my B.Ed to make a career in teaching. educo is my first job in the field. Within 9 months of my final B.Ed exams in May of 2014, I was a part of educo’s teaching team. A great team of pedagogy experts and mentors handheld me through my teaching career – from managing students, conducting activity-based classes and facilitate experiential learning. I learnt ways to connect with my students better and co-create learning experiences with them in classroom. Educo is like home to me. Whenever I have nowhere to turn, this is where I come – to my safety net. The relationship we share here are beyond our role hierarchies. I can walk upto Meenal Ma’am with my problem and she will guide me through it.

Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai

Educo is deeply grateful to the MCGM Public Private Partnership Cell, under whose umbrella the School Support Program runs. We have been working with the MCGM since 2008, and this partnership has allowed us to make an invaluable impact on the Lalbaug community.


Under the tutelage of the MCGM, the children at Saibaba Path MPS enjoy the following facilities:
  • MCGM provides the school infrastructure utilities, professional security and housekeeping.
  • The school is located in a large facility with 66 classrooms, 2 large halls, laboratories, and a library.
  • The school has one of the largest sports grounds in the F/S ward. Our children have excelled in sports and theatre activities by capitalizing on such facilities provided by the MCGM education department.
  • Many initiatives by the government such as 27 items (shoes, raincoats, tiffin boxes, etc.), mid-day meals and other such facilities are provided free of cost to the students.
At Educo, the management ensures strict compliance with all MCGM rules and regulations. We are also abreast with the developments of RTE and its compliances in the school environment.
